DONATION GUIDELINES
Turn your unneeded items into someone else’s essentials
We accept donations of clean, complete, and fully functional essential furnishings and household staples that arrive ready to go out to homes the very same day. Our trained staff reviews each donation to ensure it meets our quality and safety standards.

Dignity & Quality
All accepted donations must meet our quality standards:
- Ready to go out to households the same day they arrive
- Gently-used or like-new, without excessive wear and tear
- Safe, sound, and fully functional
- Assembled and complete
- Durable, without fragile parts
- Free of odors, smoke, and pet hair
- Not excessively bulky or oversized, able to be safely carried by 2 adults
- Without need for cleaning or repairs
What We Accept (Yes, we take mattresses!)

Furniture
Bedroom Furniture: Mattresses (Twin, Full and Queen sizes only; completely free of any stains, rips and tears; no mattress toppers); Box Springs; Free-standing Hollywood or Simple Platform Bed Frames (no headboards or footboards); Dressers (no armoires or vanities); Nightstands
- (NE Portland location ONLY: if your mattress cannot be accepted for our furniture bank, we can recycle it thanks to our partnership with Bye Bye Mattress)
Living Room Furniture: Couches and Loveseats (no daybeds, sleeper sofas, or motorized reclining sofas); Armchairs/Accent Chairs; Ottomans; End tables; Coffee Tables; TV Stands (no entertainment centers); Free-standing Shelves and Bookcases (up to 6ft); Flat-screen TVs
Dining Room Furniture: Dining Tables (less than 5ft); Dining Chairs/Stools/Bench Seating; Kitchen Utility Carts/Side Tables (no hutches or china cabinets)
Office/Productivity Furniture: Desks (up to 4ft); Desk Chairs/Stools; Crafting Tables; Storage Shelves (no filing cabinets)

Miscellaneous Furnishings
Area Rugs (up to 8ft); Throw Pillows; Plug-in Lamps; Coat Trees; Framed Mirrors; Wall Art (framed and ready to hang)

Linens and Towels
Bedsheets and Pillowcases; Bed Pillows (like new); Blankets; Bath Towels; Hand Towels; Washcloths; Bath Mats; Shower Curtains and Shower Ring Sets

Kitchen Staples
Tableware/Plates and Bowls (microwave-safe items; no fine china); Drinking Glasses (non-alcohol related only); Mugs; Silverware/Flatware; Pots and Pans; Bakeware; Mixing Bowls; Casserole Dishes; Knives and Cutting Boards; Common Countertop Appliances; “Must-have” Kitchen Gadgets and Utensils

Miscellaneous Essentials
Air Conditioners; Space Heaters; Fans; Vacuums; Trash Bins; Storage Bins and Containers (with Lids); Laundry Baskets; Utensil Organizers

If you have unique or collectible items, they might be a great fit for our Estate Store. Please visit our Estate Store Donation page to submit your donation request.
Items not included on our accepted items list will be reviewed by staff in person. Due to limited space, we can only accept items that we’ve determined will have the most meaningful impact on those we serve. Our in-person staff always have final discretion when screening items. Thank you for supporting our staff and for your commitment to our mission!

Specific items we cannot accept:
- Baby and toddler items
- Medical items and furnishings
- Consumable goods and hygiene items
- Clothing
- Decor items without practical function
- Toys, books, and games
- Large appliances
- Building materials and hardwired fixtures
- Temporary or limited-use items (e.g., sleeping bags and air mattresses)

We had been struggling for awhile to convince our mother to let go of her long-accumulated furniture and belongings. The idea of giving mom’s furniture to Community Warehouse, where it could do such good for local families, was really helpful for her in the letting go process.
