Julie Ann Smith’s approach to painting is deliberately academic and metaphorical. She especially appreciates academic realism developed by 17th and 18th Century European painters. Julie Ann often incorporates historical, psychological and symbolic references making her work personal and absolutely contemporary.
Julie Ann has been active in the Portland art scene since 2002 and is currently represented by The White Bird Gallery in Cannon Beach, Oregon. She has shown her work at numerous juried exhibitions, including the Lake Oswego Art Festival, Mt. Hood Community College, The Guardino Gallery on Alberta, and the Froelick Gallery in Portland.
