"CURIOUS GEORGE - THE ROCKING READING CHAIR"
As a child growing up in New York City, Jo was always drawing and creating imaginary worlds, and imagined herself an artist. Her passions for family and nature have blossomed since moving to Portland, where she now feels at home. Jo explores narrative sculpture combining found objects, text and mixed media. She views manipulating the variety of materials like a dance, as the images emerge and take on a life of their own. Through the process of excavating layers of memory, the story of each piece she creates gradually begins to reveal itself. “What a caterpillar sees as the end of the world the butterfly sees as just the beginning”.
